LOS ANGELES (AP) — Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter announced Wednesday that they will reprise their roles as Bill and Ted in a long-awaited new adventure.
The original team — along with some new faces — make a comeback in "Bill and Ted Face the Music," due for release in 2020.
The pair made the video announcement at the Hollywood Bowl, "where we'll never play," joked Winter.
"We want to say thank you to you, the fans, because it looks like we might hopefully..." said Keanu, to which Winter added, "...make a movie this summer... and it is all because of you guys and so we owe you a huge debt of gratitude. We wanted to say thank you, and be excellent."
The time-traveling buddy comedy, shooting in New Orleans, will be directed by Dean Parisot ("Galaxy Quest," "Red 2," "Fun With Dick and Jane"), and executive produced by Steven Soderbergh.
The now middle-aged best friends will set out on a new adventure, when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe. Along the way, they will be helped by their families, friends and a few music legends.
