WASHINGTON (CIRCA) — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is making headlines after an appearance at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas. She specifically criticized the political stance of being a moderate.
"It feels like moderate is not a stance. It’s just an attitude towards life of, like, ‘meh,’" Ocasio-Cortez said. "We've strayed so far away from what's really made us powerful and just and good and equitable and productive. And so all of these things sound radical compared to where we are."
Ocasio-Cortez continued saying, "but where we are is not a good thing. And this idea of 10 percent better from garbage it shouldn't be what we settle for."
The representative from New York received some criticism on social media for using the word garbage in her remarks.
Excuse me @aoc but are you saying America isn't great and perhaps never was? Or if it was great at some point in your mind then are you saying you want to make it great again? Interestingly, if America was "garbage" there would be no immigration issues; nobody would want to come. https://t.co/5d6xCXaLwf— Charles V Payne (@cvpayne) March 10, 2019
