WASHINGTON (CIRCA) — FedEx unveiled its brand new delivery robot Wednesday, and it could change the game for same-day deliveries.
With the "FedEx Same Day Bot," "retailers will be able to accept orders from nearby customers and deliver them by bot directly to customers’ homes or businesses the same day."
FedEx joins companies such as AutoZone, Lowe’s, Pizza Hut, Target, Walgreens and Walmart in this new endeavor of changing delivery for consumers.
The FedEx Same Day Bot is designed by the same company known for the Segway scooter. It's designed to travel on sidewalks and alongside roadways with smaller deliveries. The technology and cameras built into the bot will help it navigate obstacles and uneven surfaces on its way to the delivery.
FedEx will roll out the delivery bot this summer starting in Memphis, Tennessee.
