MENDOTA, Calif. (CIRCA via STORYFUL) β€” California firefighters rescued five people from the roof of an SUV when the vehicle became submerged in a river near Mendota, California, on Tuesday.

In a Facebook post, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said the driver tried to cross the Jan Joaquin river.

β€œIt was clearly visible that the water level was above the path, however, the man behind the wheel still tried to drive through and the SUV got stuck and became submerged in the river,” the office wrote in the post.

The passengers and driver of the SUV managed to get onto the roof of the SUV, where they were rescued.
