JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (CIRCA via STORYFUL) – A man is facing multiple charges after an abandoned dog was found alive in a ditch with its mouth and legs bound with tape.

Paul Garcia, 39, is alleged by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. to have wrapped a dachshund’s legs and muzzle with tape and thrown him from a stopped vehicle into a ditch.
A deputy rescued the dog after it was in the ditch for about 12 hours.
Speaking to local media, Sheriff Dave Marshak said temperatures were in the low teens the night before the dog was rescued and that the dog, named Jimmy by his rescuers, was not owned by Garcia.
According to a tweet from the sheriff’s office, Jimmy’s condition has improved and police are still looking for his owner.
Garcia is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $50,000 cash-only bond and is charged felony animal abuse as well as armed criminal action.
