Hit that 'like' button: Facebook is celebrating its 15th anniversary

WASHINGTON (CIRCA) — It's officially been 15 years of liking, poking and sharing via Mark Zuckerberg's internet-changing website, Facebook.

Zuckerberg and his co-founders first launched the platform from a Harvard University dorm room on Feb. 4, 2004. Over the past 15 years, the site grew to define social media as it connected 2 billion people all over the world.

The company has expanded with the purchase of Instagram for $1 billion and also went public in May 2012.

Recently, Zuckerberg and Facebook have faced privacy concerns and legal troubles, which the company has pledged to fix. At the end of 2018, Zuckerberg said Facebook is investing "billions of dollars" to keep Facebook secure for the future.
