Barack Obama's Presidential inauguration for the first time 10 years ago today


WASHINGTON (Circa) -- On January 20th, 2009, history was made as Barack Obama became the first African-American president in Washington, D.C.

Obama took the reins as president after a contentious primary and election against Hillary Clinton and John McCain respectively. Thirty-eight million people watched Obama's inauguration nationwide.

Obama became the 44th person to serve as President of the United States in 2009. He was eventually re-elected as president in 2012.
