LOS ANGELES (CIRCA) — R. Lee Ermey, a former Marine who played the loud, aggressive Sgt. Hartman in “Full Metal Jacket” and had similar roles in plenty of other films and shows, was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday.

Ermey took his usual role from real-life experience as a drill instructor for the Marines.

Ermey, who enlisted at 17, served in Japan and Vietnam. He died in April at age 74 after a battle with pneumonia.
