Police heroically save man from burning vehicle after head-on crash




EDGEWATER, Fla. (CIRCA via WPEC) — Deputies in Central Florida braved flames and thick smoke to rescue a young man after a head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver.

The crash happened early Wednesday morning along Interstate 95 near Edgewater. The Florida Highway Patrol said a driver ended up going north in the southbound lanes before the collision.

Deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and Edgewater Police pulled the crash victim to safety.

The other driver was killed in the crash, authorities said. He's been identified as 23-year-old Devon Standish of Daytona Beach.

The Florida Highway Patrol identified the rescued victim as 22-year-old Logan Aschendorf of Boca Raton. He is hospitalized in critical condition.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the FHP. Alcohol test results are pending.
