Netflix Bird Box Watching
FILE- This file image released by Netflix shows Sandra Bullock in a scene from the film, "Bird Box." Netflix lifted the usually tightly sealed lid on its viewership numbers in a recent tweet that disclosed 45 million subscriber accounts had watched the thriller, “Bird Box,” during its first seven days on the service. That made the film the biggest first-week success of any movie made so far for Netflix’s 12-year-old streaming service. (Merrick Morton/Netflix via AP, File)

EL PASO, Texas (CIRCA/KFOX) — "Bird Box," a wildly popular new movie on Netflix, is prompting people do different things while blindfolded.

Netflix posted on Twitter asking fans to stop doing the #BirdBoxChallenge, in which people have been going outside and doing things around their home while wearing a blindfold.

The challenge was inspired by the film, which stars Sandra Bullock. She and the other characters are forced to wear blindfolds outside to avoid being possessed by mysterious entities that make people commit suicide.

Countless memes have been launched since the movie debuted Dec. 21.

Netflix said Friday that the film, based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Josh Malerman, had achieved the best first week ever for a Netflix movie.
