Come on in, the water's fine: Swimmers brave the cold weather for Christmas polar plunge swim

BERLIN (AP) — A group of intrepid swimmers in Santa's hats Tuesday braved freezing temperatures as they took a dip in Berlin's Orankesee lake to welcome Christmas Day.

Water temperatures of 4 degrees Celcius (39.2 Fahrenheit) did not stop the Berlin Sealions Club from their annual polar plunge.

"No matter if the sun's shining, or if it's raining or snowing, or whether we have ice here — it doesn't matter to us, we go into the water anyway," Berlin Sealions Club member Boris Paunov said.

After her first splash, Sealion Silvia Koschwitz went back into the water a second time.

"No frost, no snow, no ice — I go right back in again," Koschwitz said.

The outside temperature Tuesday was estimated to 3 degrees C (37.4 F).
