Florida man tries to escape police by jumping head-first through closed window

LOS ANGELES (CIRCA) -- A Florida man accused of battery against his pregnant girlfriend tried to evade arrest by wrapping himself in a blanket and jumping out a closed window, police say.

Body camera footage shared Wednesday by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office shows a man diving head-first out of a window as officers close in.

According to police reports, officers were attempting to arrest Stefan Short on charges of battery when he made the leap.

Orlando's WKMG reported he’s accused of shoving his pregnant girlfriend and attacking a neighbor he believed her to be involved with.

The girlfriend told police she believed Short was suffering from drug withdrawals during the Dec. 3 episode, according to police reports. That day he successfully escaped but was captured two days later when he returned to the home.

Police officials say Short was treated on the scene for minor injuries suffered in his less-than-graceful exit. As of Wednesday, he remained jail on $5,000 bail.
