WASHINGTON (Circa) — It was a really lucky day at work for one equipment manager in Memphis, Tennessee.
The manager, named Brian’e Miller, works for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies. Her employer was facing LeBron James and his Los Angeles Lakers squad in a regular season game on Saturday night. As she sat on the court awaiting a chance to assist players, she was unexpectedly surprised by her favorite basketball player.
James was sitting on the bench and without warning signed a pair of game-worn sneakers which he passed to Miller. The manager was shocked, and as seen on video captured by a fan in the stands, she burst into tears.
Why did LeBron do this deed?
“Every year I’ve come here, she’s always worn a very exclusive pair of my shoes, and I’ve always noticed it, and I’ve never said anything to her,” James told the media after the game. “And tonight, I said something to her for the first time, and she was like, ‘Yeah, I’ve always been Team LeBron. Always.’ So she got a pair of LeBron's.”
James continued saying, “It’s very humbling the fans respect the way that I approach the game and also who I am off the floor as well.”
Miller spoke to The Commercial Appeal and said that the moment was emotional for her because she has idolized James for so many years.
“He has so many fans. That’s the thing. I’m not a fan just when LeBron comes. I’m a fan when he’s not looking, so it was just really cool to see him appreciate me,” Miller said. “I wasn’t expecting that, to come to work today and I’m going to get LeBron’s shoes. I’m just always trying to make the Lakers, or any team he’s on, comfortable because I know it’s hectic. It’s just trying to do my job, and he blessed me with a pair of shoes.”
She described her interaction with one of the best basketball players in the world as "priceless."
