WASHINGTON (Circa) — When this couple returned to the lot where their house once stood, they never expected to see their four-legged friend waiting for them.
Madison, the dog, was unable to be rescued by his parents when the Camp Fire initially spread. He survived as the family prayed he would survive, according to a Facebook post by K9 Paw Print Rescue. A volunteer, Shayla Sullivan, from the rescue group fed and watered Madison while he waited for his family.
The couple also has another dog, Miguel, that Sullivan safely returned to them after he was found. Madison took longer to find but he was right at home the whole time.
"He had stayed to protect what was left of his home," Sullivan wrote in a Facebook comment. "And never gave up on his people!"
