NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A man riding a Bird scooter was struck by a car in downtown Nashville after police said he failed to stop at a light.

It happened Monday morning at the intersection of 5th Avenue North and Commerce Street.

Metro Police said the 26-year-old, operating a Bird scooter, was traveling southbound in the right-turn-only lane on 5th Ave. and tried to cross Commerce.

Police said the light was red, and the "Don't Walk" sign was also active.

The Bird scooter continued to cross the street when a BMW struck the scooter and operator as they entered the intersection.

The man was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with noncritical injuries.
