ARLINGTON, Va. (CIRCA VIA WJLA) — A person was arrested Wednesday at the Cheesecake Factory in Arlington, Virginia, after a large crowd gathered amid a nationwide giveaway of cheesecake slices.

Police said the subject was arrested after they did not comply with the lawful orders of police to leave the Cheesecake Factory in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington.

According to police, officers had initially responded to the Cheesecake Factory to control traffic during the promotion. While on scene, a fight was reported inside the restaurant, where a large crowd had gathered. An active fight was not found by officers, but police said a “disorderly subject” was taken into custody inside after ignoring police commands.

The subject was evaluated and cleared by medics but requested to be transported to the hospital for evaluation after a struggle ensued during their arrest, police said.

Police said the subject will likely be charged with disorderly conduct and released on a summons.

Police remained on scene for crowd control after the afternoon incident.

The Cheesecake Factory promotion offered customers a free slice of cheesecake if they ordered through the DoorDash app in celebration of the restaurant’s 40th anniversary.

DoorDash has released the following statement in relation to the incident:

“DoorDash was made aware of this incident, and we are cooperating with local law enforcement.”
