LOS ANGELES (CIRCA) — Two Los Angeles Fire Department Air Operations pilots made a dangerous rescue during the Woolsey Fire earlier this month.
Pilots David Nordquist and Joel Smith saved three people and two dogs in Castro Peak in Malibu according the LAFD.
The rescue was challenging because they had low fuel supply, and the area was difficult to land in.
Nordquist and Smith also had no resources for a hoist operation, the LAFD said.
Nordquist kept the helicopter low on the ground as Smith hopped to rescue the trapped people.
