WASHINGTON (CIRCA) — Police released body-camera footage of an arrest involving a 14-year-old student in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Supreme Court Judge Anderson Cromer signed a court order approving the release of the body-camera footage.
The 65-minute video shows officer Tyler McCormick arresting Rockael Baldwin on Oct. 5.
According to a police report, McCormick arrested Baldwin after she attempted to leave Hanes Magnet Middle School.
The department said McCormick was investigating reports of an altercation between Baldwin and another student.
Baldwin was given permission from her teacher to leave class and contact her mother when she was approached by McCormick, according to the Minister’s Conference of Winston-Salem and Vicinity.
The arrest first grabbed attention and sparked outrage when video of the arrest was posted on Facebook by a bystander who decided to start filming when he saw the 14-year-old girl yanked to the ground by the officer.
