We may be still quite a ways off from the next season of Game of Thrones, but HBO managed to spill plenty of fire on Twitter on Friday.
Turns out the channel isn't exactly happy that President Donald Trump recently co-opted some of its fonts and sayings in a political meme he tweeted out.
Shortly after the Trump administration on Friday announced the reimposition of all U.S. sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal, Trump tweeted what looks like a theatrical poster image of himself walking that says "Sanctions are Coming, November 5," mimicking the show's "Winter is Coming" motto for House Stark.
HBO was none too amused, according to CNBC, which shared a statement from the channel, reading: “We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes.”
Its disapproval spilled onto Twitter, too.
The situation led George R.R. Martin, author of the book series the show is based on, to tweet out a call for people to vote in next week's midterm elections.
Some of the show's characters offered up reactions, too
