Political rivals debate, then serenade the crowd with a duet

LAMOILLE COUNTY, Vt. (CIRCA) - Two rival candidates running for the same seat in the Vermont legislature put aside their political differences in the name of song.

Lucy Rogers, a Democrat, and Zac Mayo, a Republican, came together for a debate on Oct. 10. Rogers and Mayo decided instead of fighting, they'd reach across the aisle by singing a duet together.

Are you more of a Democrat or a Republican?

"I am so excited that the bipartisan moment that occurred after our debate has sparked something in this community," Mayo wrote on Facebook. "Politics doesn't have to be defined by anger, division, or insults."

Their song choice: Eddie Vedder’s “Society.”
