WASHINGTON (Circa) – Surfer Paul Kenny accidentally slammed his head against a shark while surfing on Australia's New South Wales coast.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Kenny was attacked around 7 in the morning when he went for a swim.
"I went to catch the last wave back in, put my head down and headbutted the shark," Kenny said from his John Hunter Hospital bed. He received around 20 stitches in his right bicep, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Kenny told the Sydney Morning Herald that he could not see the shark at first but once he realized what was happening, he began to try to move it away. "I started hitting it and punching it to get it off " he said.
People reacted to the news of the shark attack on Twitter.
The 51-year-old surfer told the Sydney Morning Herald he doesn't blame the shark for his injured arm.
"I was in his world. He was just going about his business and I headbutted him so he retaliated."
