Spanish-speaking family gets harassed in Virginia restaurant

WASHINGTON (Circa) – A woman in Virginia harassed a family for conversing in Spanish while dining in a restaurant.

WRC reported that a Latina woman and her 7-year-old daughter were visiting their family when they were confronted and verbally abused by a white woman inside Andy’s restaurant in Lovettsville, Virginia.

The victim told WRC, "She asked for passports; she said that she knew everybody in Loudoun County to get us out of here, and she started saying that we were supposed to speak English, but I'm like we’re not talking to you.”

Video of the incident was filmed.

The woman is heard saying “You don’t freeload in this f------ country,” “You get the f--- out, back to your f------ country.”

Police did arrive to the scene, but no charges were filed, according to WRC-TV.

The victim told Telemundo 44, that she is sharing her story to provide awareness of bias-motivated harassment and hopes that other victims will also speak out.

WRC reported that the owner of Andy’s restaurant says the attacker will not be allowed to dine in that restaurant again.
