Pompeo meets with Mexican officials as thousands of migrants continue trek toward border


WASHINGTON (CIRCA) - Secretary of State Michael Pompeo is planning to meet with Mexican Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray in Mexico City on Friday.

He is scheduled to meet with President Enrique Pena Nieto later in the afternoon.

According to a press release by the U.S. Department of State, “Secretary Pompeo will reaffirm the U.S. commitment to cooperating with both the current administration and the incoming administration of President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador on economic issues, shared security challenges, and reducing illegal immigration.”

The meeting between the government officials will happen as thousands of migrants continue making their journey from Honduras to the U.S.-Mexican border.
