WASHINGTON (Circa) — An officer in Pasco County, Florida was in grave danger while in pursuit of a suspect.
The officer, Deputy Darren Goodwald, was conducting a traffic stop for a vehicle whose tag didn't match the car. After coming to this realization, the driver fled the scene on foot.
He tried to go back to get his vehicle but it wouldn't start which caused him to flee on foot again. He attempted to carjack a female driver but luckily Deputy Goodwald was able to tackle the suspect.
But the suspect still persisted in his attempt to escape and tried to steal the officer's firearms. The suspect was able to grab the officer's taser but ended up striking himself and the officer. He eventually tried to steal the officer's gun but two citizens intervened in the situation before another officer arrived.
This account was according to Pasco Sheriff's Office and their post on Facebook.
"We want to first and foremost, thank the two citizens who intervened without thought to their own safety to protect and assist Deputy Goodwald. They were truly heroes," the police department said.
