WACO, Texas (KTXS) — A Texas man convicted of sexually assaulting his 1-month-old baby daughter while on meth was sentenced to 80 years in prison for three counts and 2 years for 2 counts.
Patricio Medina was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child, injury to a child and endangering a child.
According to the arrest affidavit, investigators were told in March 2014 that the baby had broken ribs, a broken leg and an eye change that is consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
Medina admitted to squeezing the baby in his hands, causing the baby's ribs to break, shaking the baby and causing injury to her when he was upset with the baby's mother, according to KXXV, the ABC affiliate in Waco.
Earlier this year, Medina was indicted on five counts relating to the injuries of the baby.
Assistant District Attorney Gabrielle Massey released a statement after sentencing:
The jury’s verdict ensures that this toddler and all children will be safe from this predator for the next 80 years. Thanks to the work of CPS and Waco PD Crimes Against Children, the horrific first five weeks of this child’s life will not prevent her from having a safe and happy future.
KRON reports the child, who is now four years old, lives with an adopted family.
