Man shoots 17-year-old cousin for eating his potato chips then lies about it, police say

WASHINGTON (Circa) Ryan Langdale, 19, is in custody after shooting his 17-year-old cousin for eating his bag of salt and vinegar potato chips, police in Colleton County, South Carolina say.

The 17-year-old, who was shot in the chest, suffered a life threatening gunshot wound to torso and was rushed into surgery. Langdale told police the teenager shot himself by accident while cleaning a weapon.

Police decided to pursue the story more after seeing inconsistencies between the evidence and Langdale's story. After recovering from his wounds, the 17-year-old admitted to police that Langdale warned him about eating his potato chips and followed up on his threat to shoot him if he did so.

Langdale also switched weapons at the scene and pointed out the wrong rifle to police to hide any trace of an intentional shooting, police say.

Langdale has been charged with attempted murder, WYFF reports.
