The country is responding the the supreme court nominee Kavanaugh’s hearing with support for Dr. Ford and hashtags like: #BelieveSurvivors . This week the Senate Judiciary Committee heard the testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, 1 of 4 women who claims to have been sexually assaulted by Brett Kavanaugh in high school. On the heels of the #MeToo movement, many who believe and support Dr. Blasey are furious that to some, her testimony of assault has been dismissed and is considered a lie or political tactic, and state that this is just another example of how survivors of sexual assault are not taken seriously. Founder of the #MeTooMovement Tarana Burke, and anti sexual harassment groups encouraged supporters to use the hashtag #believesurvivors, and wear black as part of a national walkout on Monday, and many, including celebrities like Ellen, Constance Wu, Sally Field, Chris Evans and many more have shown their support for Dr. Cristine Blasey Ford during the hearing.
Here to discuss this story are our hosts, Shira Lazar, Ryan Mitchell, and our special guest Jonathan Bennett, an actor, host and writer who played Aaron Samuels in the cult classic Mean Girls and who will be in the upcoming movie, "The Haunting of Sharon Tate", alongside Hillary Duff. He is here to promote "The Mean Girls Burn (Cook)book", which is set to be released October 2nd. So what does this trio have to say about this story that has gotten such a strong and pained reaction from the nation?
Shira thinks that playing Dr. Ford as a pawn of the Democratic Party, is the GOP attempting to dismiss her entire story. Ryan also wishes that this conversation would come down to this: there should not be an attempted rapist on the Supreme Court. He says there is no way you couldn't have listened to Dr. Ford's testimony and not felt she was a credible witness. Ryan additionally discusses how triggering this experience was for the public, and he hopes that the truth comes out soon.
