Woman from viral beach video indicted for aggravated assault of a police officer

CAPE MAY COUNTY, N.J. (Circa) — A young woman from a viral beach arrest video was indicted on charges including two counts of aggravated assault of a police officer.

Earlier this summer, a bystander viral video showed Emily Weinman, who was 20 years old at the time, getting taken down and punched by an officer.

A seasonal officer at Wildwood beach tried to write a citation for underage possession of alcohol while Weinman was sitting on the beach with unopened containers of alcohol.

In the body camera video released by the police, Weinman refuses to give the officer her name and walks away from Patrolman Thomas Cannon, that’s when Cannon took her to the ground.

On Tuesday, a Cape May County grand jury indicted Weinman, now 21, on two counts of aggravated assault of a police officer and one count of resisting arrest, throwing bodily fluids and obstruction according to a court official.

Cape May County prosecutor Jeffery H. Sutherland announced on June 5 that the officers would not face criminal charges in relation to the arrest.
