SKAMANIA COUNTY, Wash. — A cougar attacked a baby alpaca at a farm in Washington state Sunday night.
The incident was recorded on video.
The alpacas were in their pen when suddenly, a cougar ran in and snatched one of their babies.
The alpaca’s mother chased the cougar down and got it to drop her baby.
"We're amazed that little boy survived," said Angela Rogers, owner of the alpaca farm. “I mean, he was only a week old, maybe 15, 16 pounds, and, you know, he's a survivor, and his mom's one tough little alpaca, too.”
The baby alpaca is on the mend.
Angela and Alan Rogers haven’t named him yet but they’re calling him “Lucky” for now.
Meanwhile, the Rogers are working on new ways to protect the herd from predators.
