Passenger airlifted from cruise ship after suffering possible stroke off Nantucket island

NANTUCKET, RI (Circa) – A passenger suffered a possible stroke on a cruise ship and had to be airlifted to safety by helicopter off Nantucket.

A video provided by the Coast Guard shows a 78-year-old man, placed onto a stretcher being rescued by an aircrew from Coast Guard Station Cape Cod, from the Norwegian Escape ship and placed into a helicopter.

Officials say the crew notified the Coast Guard about the urgent issue on Saturday night. The man and a nurse were evacuated and transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

The ship which measures up to 1,069 feet was estimated to be around 40 miles south of the Massachusetts island during the time of the evacuation.

Officials say the man was in stable condition during the rescue.
