CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Circa) — What started out as a cattle catching tool on the ranch has turned in to a mesmerizing art form at rodeos across the country. Circa had a chance to chat with Rider Kiesner, who at only 26 is now a four-time World Champion Trick Roper, at Cheyenne Frontier Days,
Trick roping was brought into the mainstream by actor Will Rogers in the 1920s. Some popular tricks are known as the Merry-Go-Round, Butterfly and the Wedding Ring.
Kiesner was given a Will Rogers trick rope set when he was 9 years old and has been practicing ever since. Kiesner began competing and performing locally the following summer. Since then, he has performed in 49 states and numerous countries.
