Get your last "punch-buggy" rounds in soon: Volkswagen is discontinuing the Beetle

WASHINGTON (Circa) - 2019 will be the last time you can purchase one of the cutest cars on the road.

Volkswagen announced this week that the 2019 Beetle will be called the "Beetle Final Edition" as it marks the end of production of the iconic car. The Beetle first came to America in 1949. Its last year will also be its 70th anniversary.

“The Beetle is more than a car,” Hinrich J. Woebcken, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America said. "It's what made Volkswagen an integral part of American culture.”

The final edition of the Beetle will have many features that echo old generations of the car. Two unique colors, beige and light blue, will be available again for the first time in years. The car will also have wheels similar to the original generation.

Volkswagen plans to have several events to honor the Beetle before it disappears for good.
