Top designers at NYFW agree Meghan Markle is a trendsetter

WASHINGTON (CIRCA)---Meghan Markle: Duchess of Sussex, former actress... and fashion muse?

The American-born royal was named People magazine’s “Best Dressed Star of 2018.” She’s already proven herself a trendsetter, rejuvenating classic looks from bateau-necklines to chic midi dresses.

And now, at the end of New York Fashion Week, top designers in the industry agree that Markle's effortless elegance is an inspiration.

“I think she's fantastic, and I like her minimalist style,” said designer Tory Burch.

“She likes practical, elegant clothes,” noted designer Dennis Basso.

Some have already seen their designs sported by the star. "The response from the customers was crazy,” said Han Chong, designer for the label Self Portrait. “The dress sold out like five times.”

Designer Han Chong, designer for the label Self Portrait, says his design "sold out like five times" after being sported by Meghan Markle at a London reception celebrating the forthcoming Invictus Games Sydney 2018.

“She’s so modern, she’s so beautiful. So we’re thrilled whenever she wears something Veronica Beard,” said designer Veronica Swanson Beard, who has also dressed Markle.

Markle’s style turns heads, in part, because of her ability to pull off affordable and high-end looks with equal class. She’s worn labels from Dior, Jason Wu and Carolina Herrera to more accessible brands like Club Monaco, J. Crew and Everlane.

Famous names in the fashion world were quick to volunteer their looks for the Duchess.

“Oh my gosh, I think Meghan Markle could roll a rack out of here today,” said designer Michael Kors, after debuting his Spring 2019 ready-to-wear line on the runway. “I think she and Kate Middleton could maybe duke it out over some of the pieces.”
