LONGVIEW, Wash. (KATU) - A shopper’s disgusting and surprising act at a Longview, Washington, store was caught on camera Tuesday, and the store is hoping to identify the person responsible.

Staff at Prospector Liquidation Store on Third Avenue said a woman walked into their store about noon, paid cash for rubber gloves and (ironically) baby wipes, and took off -- leaving behind a "No. 2" on aisle one.

Under Longview's municipal code, it's illegal to relieve yourself where such an act could be observed by any member of the public, and it is considered a misdemeanor crime.

"We had customers in here, so it wasn't private. Customers knew what was going on. It was terrible," said cashier Jen Young.

Longview police told the store that authorities couldn't do much unless they could identify the woman. Store owners are also worried this may not be her first time, and it may not be her last.

"I saw her come in. She said, 'Hi.' Went off shopping. And then I really didn't see her again until she came up to check out," said Young. "I went over by the tarps and you couldn't miss it. It was what she thought it was. Very obvious. Then it was like, 'What do we do? How do we clean this up?'"

They cleaned up the mess, and then decided to get to the bottom of what happened.

Surveillance video shows the woman, apparently wearing a medical scrub uniform, making her way between stacked goods, when she squats down and does her "doody."

Video shows the same woman return to the scene with a shopping cart, throw a wad of tissue paper that workers say she took from another aisle, and then head for the checkout stand.

What's really strange, Young says, is that the woman walked right by a bathroom key set aside for customers when she entered the store. Workers say the woman never even asked for a bathroom.

After the fact, employees noticed that the woman had either hidden or removed an ID tag on her way out of the store, which was showing when she first walked in.
