President Donald Trump commented on his wife's outerwear in a tweet Thursday evening, saying: "'I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?' written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!"
“I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 21, 2018
WASHINGTON (Circa) -- First Lady Melania Trump visited children immigrants at a holding center in Texas on Thursday but it's her jacket that has some people talking.
The jacket Trump wore said "I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?" It's a message that was written across the back before she boarded a plane flying to Texas.
Later during the visit, Trump removed the jacket but not before cameras were able to capture her wearing the apparel.
"It's a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today's important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn't going to choose to focus on her wardrobe," FLOTUS communications director Stephanie Grisham said. "(Much like her high heels last year.)"
Today’s visit w the children in Texas impacted @flotus greatly. If media would spend their time & energy on her actions & efforts to help kids - rather than speculate & focus on her wardrobe - we could get so much accomplished on behalf of children. #SheCares #ItsJustAJacket— Stephanie Grisham (@StephGrisham45) June 21, 2018
In 2017, Trump was at the center of controversy for wearing high heels while boarding an airplane to Texas. She was visiting victims of Hurricane Harvey and wore the shoes in Washington, D.C. while boarding the plane. Trump took off the shoes when she arrived in Texas.
The Daily Mail reports the jacket is a $39 khaki design from Zara. Trump wore a different jacket once her plane landed which was pale and yellow, the Associated Press reports.
In the past, Trump has worn designs from Dolce and Gabbana, Del Pozo, Christian Dior, Givenchy and Valentino among others.
Trump visited immigrants after the president signed an executive order ending the zero tolerance policy of separating parents from children.
Here is how social media is reacting to the story.
Thought this was photoshopped but no, this is real. While visiting children thrown into internment camps, Melania Trump actually wore a jacket saying, “I don’t really care, do U?” That’s like Marie Antoinette ripping a piece of bread from a starving baby and spitting on it. pic.twitter.com/B8njYXtNs7— Eugene Gu, MD (@eugenegu) June 21, 2018
