ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Authorities say an elderly driver who plowed into an Amish buggy nine months ago, killing a pregnant newlywed, has struck another buggy on the same rural southern Missouri road.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the latest crash happened Sunday as four teenagers were taking a buggy to a gathering near the town of Licking. Eighty-three-year-old Clarissa Rose Smith says she "didn't see the buggy in time to get around it."
Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Kinder says that even though the teens didn't require medical treatment, there will be "extra scrutiny" because Smith also crashed into a buggy in September. In that crash, 29-year-old Mattie Miller was tossed from the buggy into Smith's windshield. The coroner's report says Miller died at home three days later from a head injury.
