HILTON HEAD, S.C. (WSET) - A 10-year-old was flown to the hospital after officials said he was "very likely" bitten by a shark.
According to The Island Packet, the local newspaper, the boy was bitten in the arm while swimming in waist to chest deep water in front of the Disney Beach House around 3 p.m. Sunday night.
Mike Wagner, the operations manager for Hilton Head Island Shore Beach, told the newspaper that a shark was reportedly in shallow water along the coast Thursday, which evacuated swimmers for a short time.
The newspaper reported that a patient "with a severe laceration to the arm" was airlifted to a hospital in Savannah, Ga.
A Hilton Head Fire Rescue spokesperson said the incident happened in the ocean, but didn't know the cause of the injury.
