Glam super star Freddie Mercury is getting a biopic at long last, following a litany of directorial and casting turn over. At first Sacha Baron Cohen was meant to play the Queen front man, but he was soon replaced by Mr. Robot himself, Rami Malek, who does a beautiful job in the newly released trailer for the motion picture. The movie is even holding an odd contest, where fans can go to PutMeInBohemian.com on their phone, record their voice singing Bohemian Rhapsody, and possibly get it into the movie. Here to discuss the upcoming film, and the trailer's avoidance of the bisexual Freddie Mercury's queer identity, on a guestless CircaPop Live are our hosts, Shira Lazar and Ryan Mitchell.
In the beginning of the conversation Ryan Mitchell and Shira talk about the unique look of Rami Malek -- where he's both attractive and "ugly" at the same time, making his face hypnotic. The duo then discuss their surprise at the film's avoidance of queer issues, with Shira hoping there is still time to alter the movie to include it, and with Ryan not holding his breath, because if the movie hasn't included it yet, that might be it. Shira especially is shocked that the movie covers his presence at LiveAid without talking about the fact that he had AIDS. A lot to consider, and hopefully the movie will do right by these issues when it is released later this year.
