A Coast Guard cutter carrying 6 tons of cocaine, just dropped of their 9 figure bust in south Florida.
"I think it's really short-sighted to just look at is as cocaine" said USCG Captain Mark Fedor.
"Each of those bales is really the embodiment of violence, corruption and instability in a region, Central America, that just can't absorb it. So, when we see those problems arise on our southwest border, cocaine is the genesis of a lot of those problems," Fedor said.
The Coast Guard combined forces with Colombia and Mexico on a 20 day mission, arresting 11 alleged drug smugglers in the pacific who are accused of moving the powder on speed boats.
The seizure has a street value of about 179-million dollars.
"The cocaine is delivered to the Drug Enforcement Agency, the DEA, and they essentially use some of it for prosecution of the smugglers who were involved and the rest gets destroyed," Fedor said.
