WASHINGTON (Circa) -- Ice cream chain Ben and Jerry's is giving back to their customers by celebrating Free Cone Day.

The customer is not required to buy anything, according to Thrillist.
"Since 1979, it’s been our way to celebrate and say thanks to our awesome fans for another year of support," the company says in a Facebook post. "And we've kept it up every year since, spreading the peace, love & FREE ice cream around the world!"
Back in March, Dairy Queen had their own free cone day in which they gave away a free small vanilla ice cream cone to anyone who visited one of their establishments.
Rita's Italian Ice also gave away free Italian ice to all customers. Both of these stunts were done to celebrate the start of spring.
