President Trump congratulates Patrick Reed for winning the Masters

WASHINGTON (Circa) -- President Trump sent a congratulatory tweet to Masters winner Patrick Reed on Sunday night.

The tweet said, "Congratulations to Patrick Reed on his great and courageous MASTERS win! When Patrick had his amazing win at Doral 5 years ago, people saw his great talent, and a bright future ahead. Now he is the Masters Champion!"

Trump is referring to Trump National Doral Golf Club, which he owns and is based in Miami, Fla. Reed won the WGC-Cadillac Championship in 2014 and earned over $1 million in cash prize money. Reed was the youngest winner of the title at the time.

Reed won the Masters tournament on Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. As part of his prize for winning the tournament, Reed earned over $1.9 million, according to ESPN's Darren Rovell. The 27-year-old had previously made $1.62 million in the last 13 events he played, ESPN reports.

Sunday's win marks the first time Reed has ever won a major title and the sixth time he's won a tournament in his PGA Tour career.
