Office romances have been around since, well, since there have been offices. People spend most of their waking hours at work. They want to find someone special, but they hardly leave for lunch or can never make dinner. Meeting someone special in the office seems like a win-win.
Plus shows like "The Office" or "Parks and Rec" make office romances seem so fun! Who wouldn't want a love like Jim and Pam's? Filled with all the quirky laughs to make the day fly by.
You have a ton in common and understand each other's work life balance. Meetings and lunch in the breakroom would be more fun. All of this sounds great, right? Well what if it doesn’t work out? Could a bad office relationship derail your career?
In an article on Monster.com, they bring up some reasons why you might want to rethink that office romance when Cupid strikes ranging from harassment possibilities, promotions causing or awkward and uncomfortable reviews, or your romantic relationship affecting your co-workers.
However, that doesn’t seem to be stopping people. In a 2014 survey by Career Builder around 38% of employees admit to having a romantic relationship with a coworker. 24% of those employees said their boo was higher up in the company and nearly 31% of those surveyed wound up marrying their office sweethearts. So maybe it does workout
