Man convicted of attempted murder for slashing and kidnapping an infant daughter

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHP)— A Pennsylvania man was convicted of attempted murder and other charges for kidnapping his infant daughter and slashing her face before placing her in a trash bag.

David Sleets, 37, was found guilty of five felonies for the incident that occurred on Nov. 11, 2014.

The District Attorney presented evidence that Sleets kidnapped the infant from a home on the first block of East Frederick Street while her mother slept.

The child was then placed in a trash bag, which was put inside a backpack, according to the news release.

Police say Sleets slashed the child's face and neck, and then ran more than 200 yards as the mother chased after him.

Sleets then threw the bag, with the child inside, under a vehicle in a Lancaster General Hospital parking garage, according to police.

The mother was able to rescue the infant and rush her to the hospital.

The jury deliberated for about 90 minutes before deciding on the guilty verdict.

The judge will order a sentence after a completed background check and mental health evaluation.

Sleets is at Lancaster County Prison on $1 million bail. He represented himself at trial.
