Dating can get 'Complicated' when life goals don't match

Love can be hard. It can get even harder when life is in the way. Most people are attracted to their partners physically and through their personalities. But no matter how much you gel, everyone has their non-negotiables.

These are things that no matter what, no matter how much you like someone, you cannot live with a specific quality they possess. Basically, they're conflicting goals. According to couplescounselingchicago.net, it's one of the top 10 reasons couples break up.

For example, let's say two people have been dating for a year and it gets serious. As they learn more about each other, one of them reveals they don't want to have children, but their partner does. They've just hit a crossroads. They have to determine if their relationship can last despite not wanting the same thing.

The Huffington Post suggests you switch the focus from the relationship to you. During their eight-step thought process, the Post tells readers to think how watching their friends raise a family in the future would make them feel. Would there be envy or resentment? It also suggests examining your reasons. If your reasons for not having a kid is "merely a hollow echo of your partner’s" to have one, maybe they're not as strong. These are just a couple of things to consider before deciding if the relationship would work.

Baby drama is one of many issues a couple could deal with that could test their relationship. Work schedules, politics, expectations, or religion are all examples of how a relationship can go from good to bad in one argument.
