Former Arizona sheriff running for US Senate says he’ll bring back the birther debate

WASHINGTON (Circa) – The former sheriff of Arizona’s Maricopa County Joe Arpaio, has promised if elected as Senator, he would look into the debunked claim that President Barack Obama’s birth certificate is a fraudulent, according to CNN.

“I started this because of a fake document, a government document. I did care where the president came from; I didn’t care at all. We have the evidence,” Arpaio said. “Nobody will talk about it nobody will look at it, and anytime you want to come down or anybody, we will be glad to show you the evidence, and by the way, you’re going to hear more about this fake, phony birth certificate.”

When pressed on the matter the former law official remarked he has “no doubt” that the birth certificate was fake.

President Donald Trump during his campaign for the White House said that he believed that Obama’s birth certificate might have been forged. However, he later said that President Obama was born in the United States.

According to his interview with CNN, Arpaio also claims that he proved “100 percent” that the former president’s birth certificate was a fake document. President Obama released copies of his birth certificate to the public in 2011.
