Dog found shot, left for dead in trash bag

WINCHESTER, Tenn. (WZTV) — A dog was found shot and left to die in a trash bag Monday morning in middle Tennessee.

The Beagle, named “Magnum,” was found inside of a tied trash bag along Shadowbrook Road in Winchester, according to a police report obtained by The Herald Chronicle.

Winchester Police Officer James Wrisner responded to the call to find a medium sized dog inside of a trash bag with blood coming from the back of its head. Magnum was taken to Animal Harbor for medical treatment.

Animal Control later called Wrisner to say that the dog had been shot in the back of the head with a small caliber firearm. Police say no one heard shots or saw anyone throw a trash bag out the window Monday morning. The investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Stephanie Wilson, director of development for Animal Harbor, said plans have been made for Wrisner to adopt Magnum.

While this story may have a happy ending, unfortunately that’s not always the case.

“Far too often, most cases like this don’t have a happy ending,” Wilson said over the phone. “It really shows how the agencies are all working together over here.”

Magnum will be staying at Animal Harbor while he recovers from his injuries.
