Most of the world woke up this morning to the news that rapper Drake had become an overnight video game world record title holder and the collective response went something like this: "lol uh, wait.... WHAT???!!!"
If ur just waking up let me summarize what happened while u were sleeping: Ninja & Drake (the rapper) exchanged DMs & linked up on fortnite. Kimdotcom joined and it was a little weird but they kept playing. Travis Scott joined and when he died Drake revived him and said Gods plan— Zweniel🍟@McDonalds (@ZwebackHD) March 15, 2018
During the wee hours of the night Wednesday, the "God's Plan" rapper hopped on the popular multi-player video game Fortnite with top Twitch streamer Tyler "Ninja" Belvins, rapper Travis Scott and NFL rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster.
It was the most-viewed stream by a single player in the history of the Twitch live video platform. More than 600,000 people tuned into the stream, breaking the previous record of 388,000 viewers in a single stream.
So, how did this unlikely team of gamers come together? "Ninja," a professional e-sports player, teased earlier in the day that he had Fortnite "plans" and to "...be ready." It didn't take long for fans on Twitter to realize he was assembling a super squad like no other.
Drake doesn't always tweet, but when he does... you know something big is about to go down.
The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver has never been shy about his love for video games. So, when the chance to jump into the virtual 100-man battle-royale fight with Drake presented itself, JuJu wanted in.
In this video, you can hear the moment rapper (and new father!) Travis Scott joined the squad...
...and the moment Drake saw this photoshopped GIF of himself from the "Hotline Bling" music video.
The super squad played through the night while all of Twitter watched on in confusion and amazement.
