Police: School resource officer accidentally fired gun at Virginia middle school

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WJLA) - Police say they are investigating after a school resource officer fired his gun accidentally at a middle school in Alexandria Tuesday morning.

Alexandria Police say the officer was in his office at George Washington Middle School when his gun accidentally went off. Authorities say he checked immediately to see if anyone was injured. No one was hurt and the officer reported the incident to school staff and his supervisor, officials say.

Police reported that everyone at the school was safe and that classes continued on schedule.

The school resource officer is a five-year veteran of the Alexandria Police force and has been put on administrative leave as police investigate the incident, according to authorities.
