Since 2000, people have been getting their heads shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research through the St. Baldrick's nonprofit organization.
St. Baldrick's holds head shaving events all across the country, which is the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants worldwide. For the Boundary Stone event in the Washington Metropolitan area, more than 35 people volunteered to shave their heads and raised more than $48,500.
Overall, the St. Baldrick's foundation recently raised $13 million from the 24,000 people registered to shave their heads at the many events across the country.
At the St. Baldrick's event at Boundary Stone in D.C., Gareth, the event organizer, will be getting his head shaved along with Santa Claus himself.
