WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) -- Binge drinking is an American phenomenon that has taken 90,000 lives per year, according to the CDC.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines excessive alcohol use as drinking 5 or more drinks on an occasion for men and 4 or more drinks for women. Heavy drinking is defined as drinking 15 or more drinks per week for men and 8 or more drinks for women.

In a survey done in 2013, it was discovered that more than half of the U.S. adult population drank alcohol within the past 30 days.
